The Massive-Verse’s No/One Is Making the Jump To Film

Nearly two years ago, Image Comics’ Massive-Verse got a curious little addition to its lineup in Kyle Higgins, Brian Buccatello, and Geraldo Borges’ NO/ONE. Instead of riffing on the tokusatsu genre like fellow comics Radiant Black and The Dead Lucky, this is a 10-part noir story that had some extra weight behind it thanks to a companion podcast starring Patton Oswalt and Rachel Leigh Cook. Like other Massive-Verse books, it feels tailor made to jump over to other mediums, and that’s coming in the form of a feature film.

As revealed during the Massive-Verse’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con, No/One is coming to the big screen courtesy of Higgins’ Black Market Narrative and production company ZQ Entertainment. Higgins will also co-write the screenplay with Buccatello and direct the movie, marking his feature debut after previously helming the short films The League and The Shadow Hours. The film adaptation will reportedly borrow elements of the podcast, but it’s unknown if that means its voice cast—which also includes Star Trek: Picard’s Todd Stashwick—will be among them.

No/One first released early last year and focused on a series of gruesome killings in Pittsburgh known as the Richard Roe murders. Across the 10-part comic, the book explored the fallout from these killings, including copycats, a growing political movement, and the emergence of a titular vigilante. The series only just wrapped with its final chapter earlier this week, but it sounds like it’s been a consistently strong seller for Image since its launch. It’s definitely a big step up for the Massive-Verse, and opens the door for the more superheroic exploits of Radiant Black and others in his orbit to wind up with adaptations of their own, should No/One take off with audiences.
