New technology to support local businesses in Hazard

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – A new touchscreen kiosk was added in downtown Hazard to help promote local businesses and activities.

Stacie Fugate, with InVision Hazard, said she is excited to add something new to the community.

”We just really wanted something that can help direct people if they are looking for something to do. Whether that is eating, whether that is shopping, whether that is play or outdoor recreation. So, that is kind of how this came about. We just need a central item that can direct people in the direction they want to go to,” said Fugate.

Thanks to a Rural Business Development Grant, Fugate said the new touchscreen will soon have a personalized website.

“We are working on a personalized website for this kiosk. So, right now we have Hazard/Perry County tourism page up on it but soon it will be InVision Hazard’s page,” said Fugate. “That will have an interactive map that will show you anywhere you want to go in the City of Hazard. It will have a live calendar as well that will be constantly updated with events happening around here.”

Fugate also added she is from the area, and it is special for her to see Hazard continue to grow. She said she is proud of the unity between local organizations and city and county officials to continuously work together to promote local businesses and activities in the community.

“We’re all working together to not only make this a place that people never want to leave but a place that people want to come to from the outside. It has just been really powerful to see that as someone that is from here and for a long time told that there are no opportunities and that you can’t come back,” Fugate said.

The kiosk is located at 486 Main Street between Hazard Coffee Company and Ready Set Play Toy Store.
