Dist. 63 Promotes Rebecca Lim To Director Of Technology – Journal & Topics Media Group

East Maine Elementary School Dist. 63 Board of Education members named their new director of technology at Thursday’s (April 4) school board meeting. Rebecca Lim, currently a district instructional technology coach, will step into the position on July 1, when current Director of Technology Keith Shaffer retires.

“We are delighted that Ms. Lim is stepping into this new role,” Dist. 63 Supt. Shawn Schleizer said. “Her diverse background as a kindergarten and fifth-grade teacher, student-centered approach, and extensive knowledge of instructional technology are a few of the many reasons she was clearly the right fit for our director of technology position.

“In her three years as an instructional technology coach here at the district, she has made significant contributions, including spearheading technology integration efforts, securing funding for technology initiatives, and facilitating equitable access for our students.”

Lim will earn an annual salary of $124,500 in her new position. 

Lim began her career in education in 2012 with elementary teaching positions in Atlanta, Bryan, TX, Omaha, NE, and with the Newhall School District in Los Angeles County. She has also held positions in the private sector and co-authored several volumes of “Amplify Learning: A Global Collaborative,” a book series that Dist. 63 officials said, “focuses on implementing research-based instructional technology comprehensively into K-12 education.” 

“I am truly excited — and energized — to begin this transition,” added Lim. “The past three years have been deeply rewarding, as I’ve had the chance to support D63’s exceptional dedication to providing high-quality education using a wide range of innovative technology. In this new role, I hope to amplify our work, further enhancing teaching and learning.”

Lim graduated from Nebraska’s Peru State College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, earned a master’s degree in educational administration from California State University Northridge, and a graduate certificate in instructional technology from UMass Global in Irvine, CA.

Dist. 63 serves more than 3,700 students living in Des Plaines, Niles, Glenview, Park Ridge, Morton Grove, and unincorporated Maine Township.
